Story
Whilst on holiday in New Zealand, Our daughter Poppy turned our lives into chaos the day she turned 5 months old (January 2027) she had her first terrifying seizure.
As first time parents this was the scariest times of our lives. Poppy continued to have seizures and was a shell of herself for 3 months with multiple ambulance and hospital trips. With clear results for MRI,EEG,Bloods and Lumbar Puncture we just had to keep increasing her medications and introducing new ones to try and stop the seizures which just kept happening, and even after 50 seizures they are still terrifying. Poor Poppy was on so many meds she was sedated for a big majority of her days. Finally the genetic panel Blood results come back from Finland and showed Poppy had a gene mutation which causes epilepsy. Fortunately we are one of the very lucky ones where Poppy will grow out of it and now has only one medication that has given her full seizure control - but many parents and kids are not this lucky and are in the scary times for years and years.
We are doing 1 Million steps in the month of September to raise awareness for epilepsy and the peoplethat have had the lives effected by it young and old.

There are over 30,000 West Australians currently living with epilepsy. Epilepsy is one of the most common, yet often misunderstood, neurological conditions, affecting up to 1 in 25 people, whilst 1 in 10 of us will have a seizure in our lifetime. Epilepsy WA help those living with epilepsy by providing a range of support services and we constantly strive to bring epilepsy out of the shadows and reduce stigma. With your help, we will continue to do so for another 60 years and more! We rely heavily on the support of the community to help us continue offering vital support services to the WA community.
